Opening your pool after a long New Jersey winter doesn’t have to be overwhelming. If you’re in or near New Jersey this step-by-step guide will help you get your pool ready for the season—fast.
Step 1: Remove and Clean Your Pool Cover
Start by clearing off debris and water from your pool cover before removing it. This prevents dirt from falling into your pool.
Step 2: Reinstall Equipment
Reconnect your:
- Pump
- Filter
- Heater
- Skimmer baskets
Inspect everything for cracks or wear.
Step 3: Fill Water to Proper Level
Your pool water should sit halfway up the skimmer opening.
Step 4: Test and Balance Water
This is where most pool owners go wrong.
You need to balance:
- pH
- Alkalinity
- Chlorine levels
👉 Tip: Instead of guessing, bring a water sample into our North Arlington store for accurate testing.
Step 5: Shock Your Pool
Add pool shock to eliminate bacteria and algae that built up over winter.
Step 6: Run Filtration System
Run your pump continuously for 24–48 hours to circulate chemicals.
